What happened on the 5th of July?
July 24, 2009 – 07:59
The number of unique visitors for this blog is fairly stable since I have started writing articles for it. Approximatly seven to eight hundred people visit my blog every day. That’s okay for me, the more the merrier but I don’t intend to write my articles for huge audiences, my english isn’t good enough for that as your Dutch probably isn’t either. Besides that, a lot of my articles are only interesting for a very specific group of people who might happen to encounter the same problems as I do in our digital journeys.
Anyway, since the 5th of July my visitors count is sky rocketing and I don’t know why. All new visitors seem to be coming from Google´s image search and are watching Katy Perry nude. So I tried it myself and I show up as the first search result when searching for images with Google on different keywords. As long as it´s somehting with Katy Perry and nude this blog is the first in a lot of similar results.
Obviously I don´t mind the extra traffic as it brings some more `life´ to this blog but I just can´t find out why. I want to know what happened on July the 5th that made Google point to me from that day on. The Katy Perry article was published on January 16th and has been popular since then but has never generated the traffic that it is doing right now.
Some theories I have on the subject are hard to verify. Maybe some big Katy Perry fansite closed down and my blog was next in Google’s cue for Katy queries? Or maybe google’s crawlbots didn’t find my article until 5th of July? Both sound unrealistic to me and I don’t think that’s how Google works. So what did happen? Unfortunatly I still don’t know, as a matter of fact I’m writing this article to find out. I have send Google an e-mail about the subject with a link to this article and I’m now waiting for an answer. If you think you know what happened on the 5th of July drop it in the comments. I’ll promise to tell when I find out what happened.
update: no reply from Google yet, but…. I don’t show up in the results no more. Try it, use Google Image search for: “Katy Perry nude”. You’ll won’t find my blog anymore. Weird :s
