I am totally lucky, my older Kenwood Amp has DTS…so just connected the optical after scratching my head over audio…and it works like a charm…

Too bad my upscaling DVD player now is collecting dust…lol..

But the WD TV player rocks… :-)

Hi Guys,

SUpport you entirely about the need to have DTS downmixing support. Hopefully WD will see sense and provide it via a firmware upgrade in the future.

But for the time being, there are a set of handy tools readily available to decode DTS in MKV’s to a 2 channel simple AC3.

To decode DTS in other containers you could look at using mediacoder with a “copy video” function.

for me, it’s not a disadvantage at all. watching movies in stereo doesn’t make much sense! ;)

Looks like WD decided to go the way of any big company and release a next generation product which will for sure be more expensive but at least i will support DTS.

Shame, I paid 100$ for this little box and now I have to spend additional 300$ on a receiver that supports DTS just so i can watch my HD movie collection with sound.

If WD is not going to fix this issue they should at least post on their website in big red letters “DOS NOT SUPPORT DTS” I bet 90% of people would never bought theirs if they knew that from the start.

I have just bought one after reading all the great reviews and cheap price….but i too soon found out the hard way although it plays most stuff it wont play dts..so bang goes all the mkv dts video conversions i cant use!…..

Next time i will do more research!….this thing will be useless in the near future…..everything is now DTS!….WD will change when their sales are impacted….sadly that wont help any of us!

WD Really need to bite the bullet and cough up for DTS, or get the downmixing running since the net is covered with people screaming for this feature.
It’s losing them sales; I would have had no problem telling friends to get the little black box, but not now.

Cheap or not, if it doesn’t play the popular option for blu-ray sound, it aint worth shit.

I don’t think WD will ever release a firmware update which will address this matter. This is because the micro code controlling the Sigma SoC isn’t open source and wasn’t written by Western Digital itself. So even if they would be in posession of this code and would be okay with releasing it, they aren’t allowed to do so.

PS. Ann’s suggested alternative solution is not a virus. I have double checked it… Until someone proves me wrong the link stays. (Thanks Ann :D)
